In order to guide students to have a deep understanding of the development and achievements of contemporary China, improve their ability to tell Chinese stories in English and spread the voice of China well, the university held the "2023 English Speech Competition of Gengdan Institute of the Beijing University of Technology" at 6pm on October 18 in the lecture Hall 904 of the synthetic building. The competition was organized by the Office of Teaching Affairs of the University, the Department of College English Teaching Department and co-organized by the Student Union of the University. Xu Fei, Vice president of Gengdan Institute, attended the competition and gave a speech for the competition, encouraging students to take the competition as an opportunity to improve their cultural confidence, English expression ability and comprehensive literacy.

At the same time, the competition is to select outstanding contestants for "2023" FLTRP-Guocai Cup English Speech Contest (Beijing Section) and "the 14th (2023) Beijing College Students English Speech Contest". The contest consists of two parts: speech and impromptu speech. 17 contestants selected and recommended by The secondary colleges competed on the stage around the two major themes of The Chinese Path to Modernization and Building a Beautiful China and randomly selected impromptu speech topics to exchange ideas.

The speech content of the contestants is full of thinking, logic, persuasion and artistic appeal. Their good temperament and appearance and skilled English speech skills fully reflect the positive spirit of our university students.

Adhering to the principle of fairness and justice, Vice President Xu Fei, head of the English Teaching and Research Office of the School of Humanities Hu Wanli, teacher Li Huaxuan, teachers of the International Business School Song Wenli, Xie Xiaoning, foreign teacher John, head of the English Teaching and Research Office of the School of Information Engineering Wang Xiuhong, teacher Yang Yunzhan, head of the English Teaching and Research Office of the International School of Design Wang Fei, teacher Yu Xuetong jointly formed the judges of the competition. The judges judged each contestant from six aspects: speech content, intonation, fluency, communication ability, time control and overall performance.

After fierce competition, the competition finally awarded 2 grand prizes, 3 first prizes, 5 second prizes and 7 third prizes. Chen Xinyi from Class 21-1 of Urban Planning, School of Mechanical Engineering and Ma Tianxin from Class 22-2 of Psychology, School of Humanities won the special prize. They will represent their schools to participate in the ground Competition of "2023 FLTRP · Guocai Cup" English Speech Contest (Beijing Area). Xu Shixian, from Class 23-1 of School of Mechanical Engineering, will represent the university to participate in the "14th (2023) Beijing English Speech Competition for College Students"
