To implement the important thougts on young people of Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee; to embrace the upcoming 20th CPC National Congress; and to celebrate the 100^th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Youth League,  Gengdan Institute of Beijing University of Technology is selecting the Star of Self-enhancement of 2021 among students to promote the theme of striving for excellence in spite of the various challenges faced.

Following their application, assessment and initial selection by the affiliated colleges,  and reassessment by the Office of Student Affairs, seven students went on to undergo the final stage of the university-level selection process on May 19th of 2022. On May 19^th, the Office of Student Affairs organized an online meeting for the big event. Bai Zhiqiang, Secretary of Party Committee of the Institute made the opening speech,urging students at the college emain ever vigilant in the pursuit of virtue and excellence, to learn from each other, and not to stray from the path of right action. Following his speech, seven students made presentations to sahre their inspiring stories of personal development and the panel of judges scored each of them based on their application materials and presentation performance. Finally, Lian Jiangge was declared the winner and awarded the Star of Self-enhancement for the university. He will now proceed to the next level and compete for the chance to be awarded the Star of Self-enhancement for the whole of Beijing.

Deputy president, Liu Lin, delivered the closing speech in which she praised all the students who have gone on to serve their country by enlisting in the army, volunteering to work on the front line in the fight against COVID-19 or responding to a humanitarian crisis in the aftermath of a natural disaster. She encouraged students to pursue their dreams and not to give up in the face of adversity.
