Architecture Major Students’ Field Trip on the Architectural Design of Art Museums
On September 14, 2023, guided by Professional Teacher Li Duoyang Architecture major students of class 21-1 went on a field trip on the architectural design of the art museums of the Red Brick Art Museum and the Central Academy of Fine Arts.
Designed mainly by the famous architect Professor Dong Yugan at Peking University, the Red Brick Art Museum is located in Cuigezhuang Town, Chaoyang District, Beijing. Combined with its surroundings, the building is mainly made of such design materials as red and greenish bricks, which turns out to be a garden-style art museum characterized by contemporary courtyards with mountains and water. Not only could students personally feel the very changes from indoor to outdoor space and the very creation of architectural detailing to gain a brand new esthetic experience, but meanwhile they could also feel the very clash and harmony between the special “brick language” this particular type of architecture uses and the art and culture of such a creative garden scenery.
Inside the Central Academy of Fine Arts is its affiliated Art Museum, which is located at 8 Huajiadi South Street and was designed mainly by the famous Japanese architect Jiqi Xin. The shell body of the building’s solid facing consists of grayish green rock walls and a gradually curved roof, which matches the brick’s gray color of its surrounding buildings and varies a lot in terms of form. The space patterning and ordering of the interior is open, free and full of energy and interest.
Thanks to this outdoor filed trip, students cognized and understood particular cases through graphics, experienced the architectural and spatial design in a personal and short-distance manner and sensed and controlled dimension by survey, fully preparing for their subsequent subjects regarding the architectural design of art museums during this case investigation.
