On the night of 20 August, the inauguration ceremony of military training for students of class 2023 at Gengdan Institute of the Beijing University of Technology takes place as planned on the Institute tracking filed. People who attend this inauguration ceremony are as follows: Deputy Political Commissioner Lieutenant Colonel Chen Xiaolong and Deputy Chief of Staff Major Wang Jianheng, both affiliated to the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Troop 66168, and Gengdan Institute Executive Vice-President Wu Tao, Vice-President Liu Lin, Vice-President Li Yongjun, Vice-President Xu Fei, Presidential Assistant Tian Ye, Dean Xu Shengyun, School of Electromechanical Engineering, Dean Li Jingzeng, School of Information Engineering, Dean Lin Zijie, School of International Design, Dean Li Jie, School of Humanities, Dean Liu Jiajun, School of Digital Technology and Deputy Dean Shan Wenbo, School of International Business. The inauguration ceremony is chaired by Gao Mingping, Secretary of the Institute League Commission.

As the ceremony begins, people present all stand up; as the national flag is being raised, the national anthem of the People’s Republic of China is being played and sung. The solemn singing of the national anthem marks the formal opening of the inauguration ceremony.

With determined and confident gestures and powerful rallies, the troop in charge of this military training gives a tremendous performance on military subject demonstration, which fully exhibits the handsomeness of contemporary servicemen and wins a succession of clapping from teachers and students.

Lieutenant Colonel Chen Xiaolong of the troop in charge of this military training makes his mobilizing speech on the training. He points out that military training is an important way of developing students’ good behavior, strict obedience to discipline and executive force, hence a challenge to both mental perseverance and physical ability. A harsh and strict yet unforgettable life of miliary training is about to come. Lieutenant Colonel Chen hopes that students would behave themselves with strict standards, and he requires the student trainees to: respect teachers and miliary officers, obey orders, follow commands, comply with discipline, so much so that they can get improved through blood, sweat and tears and go for higher life pursuits during the military training period.

Following the end of the mobilizing speech, Vice-President Liu Lin announces Toward the Decision on the Establishment of the Military Training Regiment of Class 2023 at Gengdan Institute of the Beijing University of Technology. The military training regiment of class 2023 appoints Gao Mingping as Political Commissioner of the military training regiment, Zhang Chunsong as Deputy Political Commissioner and Deputy Head of the military training regiment, 14 home teachers as Counsellors of the military training companies, 14 demobilized college student soldiers as Military Training Assistants and 9 core students as Military Training General Assistants, all of whom are awarded offers of appointment. At the same time, all sections across the Institute fully communicate, closely collaborate and work together in the same boat, each trying its best to ensure the military training for students of class 2023 will go ahead smoothly.

Military officer representative Yang Wei of the troop in charge of this military training makes a speech. He expresses his willingness to strictly follow rules and regulations and take care of students during the training period so that successful completion of this military training task can be guaranteed with a good serviceman image and a high serviceman quality, while hoping that by the military training can students have particular enlightenments about their future study and life, raise their awareness of political ideology and strengthen their consciousness of national defense. Student representative of class 2023 Peng Zhihao makes a speech. He claims that military training can test our sense of discipline and perseverance, develop our quality of struggle and endurance and promote our collective spirt of being united and helping each other. He promises on behalf of all student trainees to respect military officers, obey orders, unite fellows, try hard, welcome challenges and be determined to finish this training task.

At the end of the ceremony, Executive Vice-President Wu Tao at Gengdan Institute makes a speech, who at first wishes students of class 2023 smooth and successful completion of this military training. Then he puts forward the following sincere expectations for students ready to participate in the military training. Firstly, students ought to overcome themselves in obeying orders, and to develop the quality of following rules—which is one of the most important qualities in life—in “restricting” themselves. Secondly, in this military training students ought to promote the spirit of “seeking hardship”, dare to fight hardship, know how to grapple with hardship and be ready to overcome hardship, so as to build a stronger body, have higher spirits and shape a nobler mind through “hardship”. Thirdly, students ought to grow together in being untied and helping each other, promote the spirit of collectivism, be united and friendly, help one another, work together and manage to have excellent performances, showing the youthful quality and image of the new generation of Gengdaners. Fourthly, students ought to show their potential talent in the military training and prove their independent personality. In the four years to come, Gengdan Institute would provide students with necessary knowledge and ability for their living and development; this meaningful career begins right from the outset of this military training.

The inauguration ceremony ends perfectly with the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Military Song. It is hoped that all students of class 2023 participating in the training would firmly remember the sincere expectations from the Institute leaders, committing themselves body and soul in the military subject training with high spirts and proud gestures. It is believed that students can safely, successfully and excellently finish this military training task with their strong perseverance and tough spirit, handing over a satisfactory answer sheet to their youth.
